The court, headed by Additional Sessions Judge Sharad Kumar Tripathi, delivered the verdict in the case of the kidnapping of ‘Namami Gange’ project manager Abhinav Singhal, along with charges of extortion, abuse, and threats.
Following a thorough analysis of the arguments presented by both parties, Judge Tripathi convicted Vikram and Singh. Dhananjay Singh has been sentenced to seven years in jail by the court and has also been fined Rs 50,000.
Santosh Vikram and Dhananjay Singh have both been placed under judicial custody. The court proceedings unfolded amidst heightened security measures. Following the announcement of the sentencing, Singh is being transferred to the district jail, escorted by the police in a Bajra vehicle.

He was born on 16 July 1975 in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. He belongs to the Rajput caste and according to his portfolio mentioned in the Lok Sabha, he is also involved in the business and farming.
After completing his schooling, Dhananjay Singh attended Tilak Dhari (TD) College in Jaunpur, where he started his political journey as a student leader. Later, he attended Lucknow University, where he did his post-graduation in political science.

His career
From 2002 until 2009, Dhananjay Singh served as an independent candidate in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, representing the Rari seat in the Jaunpur district. After that, he was a member of parliament (MP) for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the 15th Lok Sabha from 2009 to 2014.
Notably, Dhananjay has a reputation as a politician with a troubled background because of the accusations of corruption and legal troubles he has encountered during his political career. Often referred to as a ‘Purvanchal Bahubali’ and even labeled as a Mafia Don, Singh has drawn scrutiny for his involvement in questionable activities.
In addition to his stint with the BSP, Dhananjay Singh had a brief association with the Janata Dal (United) party.
