Ajay Ratra: career journey and statistics
In 2002, Ratra made history by becoming the youngest wicketkeeper to score a Test century and the first Indian wicketkeeper to achieve an overseas century, with an unbeaten 115 against the West Indies. However, an injury later that year led to his replacement by Parthiv Patel, who became the youngest ever Test wicketkeeper. Hence, Ratra found himself trailing behind MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik, and Patel in the selection order.
Ratra was also a key member of the Indian Under-19 squad that clinched the Youth World Cup in 2000. After his training at the National Cricket Academy, he was one of six wicketkeepers that India aimed to integrate into the national team within a year. He further showcased his talents in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, representing Goa.
Ratra retired from cricket in July 2015, concluding a career that spanned 99 first-class matches, during which he amassed 4,029 runs at an average of 30.29, including eight centuries and a double-century.
