Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has been anointed the heir to the Jamnagar royal crown by Jam Saheb Shatrusalyasinhji of Jamnagar, in a move that combines history, legacy, and sport.

On October 11, 2024, the royal family of Jamnagar announced Ajay Jadeja, a former cricket player from India, as the heir apparent. The current Maharaja Jam Saheb of Nawanagar, Shatrusalyasinhji Digvijaysinhji Jadeja, made the announcement.

For those who don’t know, Nawanagar was a princely state in Gujarat that was part of India before to its independence. Jamnagar, the capital city of Nawanagar, was also called Nawanagar.

Ajay’s family are descendants of legendary cricketer Ranjitsinh Jadeja, who ruled Nawanagar from 1907 to 1933. Maharaja Shatrusalyasinh Jadeja is Ajay Jadeja’s uncle and the Maharaja’s cousin, Daulatsinghji Jadeja, Ajay’s father, served as a Member of Parliament.

53-year-old Ajay Jadeja was born into a royal family that was once from Nawanagar on 1 February 1971. K. S. Ranjitsinhji, the name of the Ranji Trophy, and K. S. Duleepsinhji, the name of the Duleep Trophy, are two of his relatives. Daulatsinhji Jadeja, Jadeja’s father, served as a Jamnagar Loksabha member of parliament three times. His mother is from the Keralan town of Alappuzha.


Jadeja is married to Aditi Jaitly, Jaya Jaitly’s daughter, and the two of them have two kids, Aiman and Ameera.

He started attending classes at New Delhi’s Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan. After that, he was transferred to Rajkumar College in Rajkot. He disliked boarding school, and he made 13 escape attempts from it in one year. He has a net worth of $25 million.

Ajay Jadeja career

Ajay Jadeja is a well-known Indian former professional cricket player. Between 1992 and 2000, he was a consistent player for the Indian cricket team in the One Day International (ODI) format. He participated in 196 ODIs and fifteen Test matches for India.

He competed for India at the Asia Cup, which they won in 1995. As the team mentor, Jadeja is currently employed with the Afghanistan cricket team.

On June 3, 2000, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned him from cricket for life; later, the BCCI reduced the punishment to five years due to his alleged involvement in match fixing. The ban was lifted by a Delhi court on January 27, 2003.

In 2015, he left his career as a cricket player to become the Delhi cricket team’s coach. He performed in a few Bollywood films in the 2000s, participated in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, and frequently served as a pundit for SET Max, AajTak, NDTV India, and other channels.
