A day after leaving his old party, Arjun Modhwadia who was the former head of the Gujarat Congress joined the BJP on Tuesday.
Declaring his distress over the party’s resolution to “boycott” the January 22 consecration of the Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya, Modhwadia joined the BJP at the party headquarters here alongside state BJP chairman CR Paatil.
67-year-old Arjun Modhwadia was born on February 17, 1957, in Modhwada, Gujarat. Modhwadia hails from a Gujarati family deeply rooted in the state’s culture and traditions. From his early days, Modhwadia displayed a keen interest in public service, laying the foundation for his future endeavors in politics.
Modhwadia is married to Hiraben and is blessed with two children, one son and one daughter. His son Parth was earlier arrested for consuming alcohol. His family has been a source of support and encouragement throughout his political journey.
Modhwadia pursued his schooling at the government primary school in his village. He later graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Lukhdhirji Engineering College in Morbi, Gujarat. His academic background equipped him with the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of governance and administration.

He served as a member of the Delimitation Commission of India for Gujarat and played a pivotal role in shaping parliamentary and assembly constituencies in the state.
Rising through the ranks, Modhwadia was appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2007. His unwavering commitment to public welfare earned him widespread admiration and respect across party lines.
In 2011, Modhwadia assumed the role of President of the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), spearheading the party’s initiatives and galvanizing support from grassroots workers.
