Following a neighbor’s March 5 allegation of gunfire, Johnson—who had acquired notoriety from an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast—was taken into custody on murder charges.
Responding officers discovered a horrifying scene, with the victim, identified as 44-year-old Collin Small, dismembered, and parts of his body found in various locations within the apartment. The severed head, bearing a bullet wound, was chillingly stored in Johnson’s freezer.
The event happened only one month after Johnson appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast, where he talked about how he went from being convicted of robbery in 1997 and receiving a 25-year jail term to being a supporter of criminal justice reform.

Who is Sheldon Johnson?
Sheldon Johnson is an ex-convict and a criminal justice reform activist. He has been in the news because he was recently arrested for murdering Collin Small brutally.
He was born and brought up in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City. According to his father, Sheldon Johnson Sr., Sheldon obtained his GED in prison.
Notably, almost half of his life has been spent in prison. State prison records show that he was found guilty of illegal possession of stolen goods in Manhattan in 1997 while going by the alias Thomas Smalls.
Sheldon worked as an at-risk juvenile counselor for the Queens public defender’s office. He gained fame for being a guest on Joe Rogan’s well-liked podcast last month, where he talked about his job and his imprisonment.

In “Sentenced to 50 Years Sheldon Johnson Decided to Turn His Life Around,” the episode, Johnson talked about his own experiences and stressed the negative effects of incarceration on others.
According to police sources, Sheldon was charged on Thursday with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a firearm in connection with the death of Collin Small, 44, inside the victim’s Bronx apartment.
He is currently 48 years old.
