The famous Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM), which is also recognised as the greatest running event in Asia, began its 19th edition early on January 21. This year, there were close to 59,000 runners that turned out for the competition. The marathon began at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
There were 20,590 competitors in the Dream Run, 1,782 in the Senior Citizens Run, 7,130 in the Open 10K, 10,711 in the Marathon, 15,218 in the Half Marathon, and 1,114 in the Champions with Disability category.
Lemi won the gold label road race for the men’s elite division in 2:07:50, marking his second straight victory. Mitku Tafa (2:09:58) placed third, behind Haymanot Alew (2:09:03). The men’s field saw India’s Bugatha place seventh overall.

Women’s gold medallist Minsewo led her countrywomen Muluhabt Tsega and Medhin Bejene to second and third place, respectively.
On Sunday, January 21, 2024, runners take part in the Mumbai Marathon 2024 at the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai. Two Indians were among the top 10 elite men’s runners: Gopi finished at number ten and Srinu at position eight.
Lemi claimed he was going for the race record as well, but he fell short in the final three miles or so, a report in Mid Day outlet tells.
