Last month, during the United States’ first match against Wales, an American sports journalist Grant Wahl was held for about 30 minutes for wearing a rainbow T-shirt.
Now that journalist passed away on Friday, December 9 while covering Argentina’s FIFA World Cup quarterfinal victory over the Netherlands. He fell at the Lusail Iconic Stadium and was taken to a neighboring hospital by emergency personnel where he was declared dead.

However, his brother Eric Wahl, who broke the news of the football writer’s passing, suspects foul play on the part of the Qatari government and claims that his brother was killed after participating in a demonstration in favor of the LGBTQ+ community.
Eric stated in a video on his Instagram page,
“My name is Eric Wahl. I live in Seattle, Washington. I am Grant Wahl’s brother. I’m gay. I’m the reason he wore the rainbow shirt to the World Cup. My brother was healthy. He told me he received death threats. I do not believe my brother just died. I believe he was killed. And I just beg for any help.”
He added,
“We’re still trying to find out. He collapsed at the stadium, was given CPR, was taken by Uber to hospital and died according to Celine. We just spoke with the state department and Celine has spoken to Ron Klain and the White House.”
