 39-year-old Charlotte Dujardin was born on 13 July 1985. She is 5ft 7in tall. Dujardin was raised in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, and went to Vandyke Upper School there. When she was two years old, she began riding and would take her older sisters’ horses from the show jumping ring back to the horse trailer. Their mother Jane Dujardin bought and sold ponies for her daughters.

Dean Golding proposed to Dujardin after she won gold in Rio. They had dated for a decade already. Isabella Rose, their daughter, was born in March 2023.

Trainer Debbie Thomas encouraged Charlotte Dujardin to pursue dressage, and she did so by using a horse her grandmother had left her. Hester and co-owner Roly Luard invited Dujardin to train the young Dutch Warmblood gelding Valegro in 2011 so that Hester could ride the horse.

Dujardin won the 2012 World Cup freestyle competition at Olympia in December 2012 with a score of 87.875%. Dujardin and Valegro won the FEI World Cup on April 19, 2015, in Las Vegas, with a final-day score of 94.169%. Dujardin’s elimination from the Longines FEI European Championships in 2019 came about as a result of blood finding on her horse, Mount St John, following her test.

According to the FEI, on July 23, 2024, Charlotte Dujardin announced her withdrawal from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris after it was discovered that she had been “engaging in conduct contrary to the principles of horse welfare” in a video.
