Jacob Graham Bethell is an upcoming English cricketer who was born on October 23, 2003, in Barbados. He currently plays cricket at the domestic level for Warwickshire, and limited overs cricket for England at the international level. Bethell moved to Warwickshire, England, when he was around 12 years old and made his Warwickshire Twenty20 debut on June 20, 2021, during the 2021 T20 Blast.

His grandfather, Arthur, was a first-class cricketer for Barbados while his father, Graham, also played for the island’s youth team and also captained a Sheffield Collegiate side.

Arthur Bethell played 16 matches for the senior Barbados side between 1963 and 1970. Jacob then went to England on a scholarship and is on the books at Warwickshire.

Jacob represented Barbados at the regional Under-15 level and is a former Harrison College student.

He bowls in the mid-80s.

Career

Jacob Bethell started out playing age group cricket in the West Indies before moving to the UK as a teenager. He eventually earned a scholarship there in Rugby School before signing his first professional contract for Warwickshire at the age of 17 in 2021. Later that same year, Bethell made his List A debut during a One Day Cup against Glamorgan. Although he scored just two runs, he managed to take four wickets with his left-arm spin. Back in September 2021, Jacob was named as the joint captain for the England Lions alongside Tom Prest against the West Indies. He then featured in England’s U19 World Cup squad the following year, where he scored a 42-ball 88 during the quarter-final.
