When England batsman Hamza Shaikh given obstruct the field  against Zimbabwe, he made sure his time at the Under-19 World Cup would live on in memory.

when apparently thinking the ball was dead, Hamza Shaikh was dismissed when he picked up a motionless ball and threw it to Ryan Kamwemba after signalling the Zimbabwean wicketkeeper that he was going to do so.

Zimbabwean wicketkeeper Ryan Kamwemba began to move from behind the stumps to grab a ball that Shaikh had defended by his feet in the 17th over. Shaikh then did what batters often do, bending down to pick up the ball while it was stagnant in the crease and pass it back to the fielders.

In his commentary, Charles Dagnall, as per Fox Sports stated:

Now what’s happened here? Celebrations are going on in the Zimbabwe team, Hamza Sheik looks completely non-plussed and the two umpires are having a dismissal.

Ex-Zimbabwe cricketer Tino Mawoyo responded:

He’s picked the ball up without the permission of the fielding side and maybe they’re saying the ball was still live.”

Law 37.4 of Cricket states:

Either batter is out Obstructing the field if, at any time while the ball is in play and, without the consent of a fielder, he/she uses the bat or any part of his/her person to return the ball to any fielder.”

England was reduced to 78-3 after losing the toss and having to bat first. The two on-field umpires conferred and sent the appeal for a review, and the third umpire declared Shaikh out (for one-off nine deliveries) after watching the replay.

Hamza Shaikh Bizarrely is England’s U-19 Cricket Team player who was born on May 29, 2006 and is currently 19 years old. He is the No. 4 batsman for the international side.

He recently made headlines for being given obstructing the field situation. As Kamwemba called for Shaikh to be removed for impeding the pitch, it escalated into a contentious scene that had Stuart Broad and another former England Test cricket player in irritation.
