The transmission, however, abruptly ended 10 minutes into the interview. A voice off-camera said, “Oh wow,” as the reporter who was asking the inquiry got out of his chair. The cause of the interruption was later revealed to be a stomach bug that had affected the 69-year-old leader.
Around 15 minutes later, Erdogan returned and apologized for his abrupt absence and said that his hectic schedule had made him unwell. He continued the interview and responded to a few more queries before wrapping up the broadcast, despite looking exhausted and having tears in his eyes.
