Elizabeth Bailey, a 37-year-old science teacher formerly employed at Northview Academy in Statesville, has faced serious legal charges since her suspension in October 2022. Accused of multiple offenses, including criminal statutory rape of a child 15 or younger, Bailey initially faced a substantial $750,000 bond.
However, the bond was later reduced to $50,000, and specific conditions were set for her pre-trial release.
On Saturday, May 13, Bailey was involved in a car accident on Statesville’s Mocksville Highway, resulting in her arrest. According to reports, Bailey was found in the passenger seat, visibly intoxicated.
Disturbingly, two young individuals were present in the vehicle, but they fled the scene before the authorities arrived. The minors were later located by the police, and one of them was taken into custody due to an unfulfilled juvenile secure custody order. Bailey was subsequently detained for violating her pre-trial release conditions.
Pre-trial release conditions and legal charges
As part of her pre-trial release deal, Bailey was ordered to refrain from contacting the student with whom she allegedly had a relationship. Unfortunately, her involvement with the underage student violated the terms of her bail. However, instead of requiring her to post an additional bond, District Court Judge Christine Underwood amended the bond by removing the original $750,000 amount.
Bailey’s bond, which was initially posted in October 2022, is still in effect. The investigation is ongoing, and there is a possibility of additional charges being filed.
There are presently 24 accusations against Elizabeth Bailey, including felony interfering with or intimidating a state witness and criminal statutory rape of a minor. The severity of these charges underscores the gravity of the alleged misconduct.
