Windsor Superintendent Terrell Hill told WFSB-TV that 15-year-old Elijah-Jay Mariano of Windsor High School passed out during a school exercise.
Elijah-Jay Mariano-Rivera received medical attention from emergency services during practice, according to a letter from superintendent Terrell Hill to their parents. First aid was provided by the coaching staff as they were waiting for the Ambulance.
After the teenager received CPR from Windsor police and EMTs, they transported him to Connecticut Children’s for further care. Later thereafter, Hill said, he passed away.

Elijah-Jay Mariano was a Windsor, Connecticut native who went to high school. He was new to the town and new to the school system. According to WFSB, his football buddies, who called him “Big Tex,” claim he migrated from Texas.
Superintendent Terrell Hill of Windsor claims that even though Elijah-Jay wasn’t practising tackling or football drills, he fainted during practice, which is when the event began.
Windsor Mayor Donald Trinks stated that Elijah-Jay Mariano-Rivera, 15, was doing light drills when he suddenly went out. He was brought to CT Children’s by ambulance after the coaching staff started CPR, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
As per a report by Fox 61, Trinks said:
This is horrible. He was a young man doing what he loved. All our thoughts and prayers are with his family and teammates.”
As per the report, Counsellors will be available to students tomorrow. Windsor officials have stated that the child’s family is asking for privacy while they grieve. The Windsor school system superintendent will formally announce later this week.
As per a report in NBC Connecticut outlet, Hill said:
As a community, we want to keep his family in our thoughts and prayers, and support them moving forward, however we can.”
