The tragic news of Hall’s passing was confirmed by one of his friends, Greg Mannarino.
According to the statement given by Greg, Hall passed away on Wednesday November 2 at around 2:45 am at North Las Vegas, VA Medical Center.
Hall was reportedly a member of the US Army Air force when Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor causing the death of 2,403 Americans. At the time, Hall was just 18-year-old.
In an earlier interview with Las Vegas Review-Journal, Edward revealed that he is believed to be the last living person from Pearl Harbor, the state of Nevada.
During his conversation with the outlet, he also stated that Dec 7, 1941, is a day he would never forget.
Hall’s friend Greg visited him a night before Edward passed away. In a statement with Review Journal, he revealed that his friend was “full of life.”
He also stated that Ed was often seen cracking jokes with nurses.
In his statement, Greg stated that, “He passed away peacefully in his sleep. He joked with the nurses last night. Before I left he said ‘I love you.’ He seemed still full of life.”
Ed was discharged from his duties in the US Army back in 1946. At the time he was 23 years old. During that time, he tried to enroll in a school to learn more, however, he was just turned away.
Later, he went on and started working as an elevator installer in Chicago, which he continued to do for approximately 40 years.
After being retired in 1994, Ed relocated back to Las Vegas. Though he never lost his interest in education, he tried once again to enroll in high school.
Finally, in 2017, he graduated from high school. At the time, in an interview with Review Journal, Ed revealed that he was “just overwhelmed” to have been able to graduate.
During that time, he even told the media outlets that his only objective is to live for 100 years, and it’s the last thing that he wanted to do.
By stating this, he also added, “If I can do that, that’ll fill the bucket.”
However, the last survivor of Pearl Harbor and man who wanted to live for 100 years passed away at the age of 99 peacefully.
Our condolences to the family and friends of Edward Hall aka Ed Hall. May his departed soul rest in peace!
