In Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre on Monday night, the World Snooker Championship was interrupted when Edred Whittingham, a “Just Stop Oil” campaigner, splashed orange powder paint over one of the tables while Robert Milkins and Joe Perry were playing.
Whittingham can be seen leaping onto the table and dusting the surface with orange powder in a video of the event that went viral on social media. He is wearing a t-shirt that reads “Just Stop Oil.” Due to this, the game between Milkins and Perry was postponed for the table to be reclothed.
At the next table, Margaret Reid, a different protester, attempted the same action but was stopped by the referee. In an official press release, Just Stop Oil said,
“They (protesters) are demanding that the government stop all new UK fossil fuel projects and are calling on UK sporting institutions to join in civil resistance against the government’s genocidal policies.”

Edred Whittingham is a UK citizen and a “Just Stop Oil” activist. He has been in the news because he was held for disrupting the World Snooker Championship at Sheffield’s Crucible Theatre.
He is a native of Cambridge and has British nationality. In his family, he has two brothers and one sister. He is currently studying politics, philosophy, and economics at Exeter University. He is currently 25 years old.
Edred Whittingham has a history of radical behavior. He was jailed at HMP Birmingham last year for blocking the Kingsbury Oil Terminal in Warwickshire. According to The Mail, he is opposed to having children on moral grounds. He has been arrested six times in the past 12 months, including for gluing his hand to a Turner painting in Manchester last July.
To support his protests, Whittingham crowdfunds his activities and encourages donations to cover his living costs. Edred Whittingham was born to his parents on May 13, 1997 and his father is a VC, a company director, and an investment manager while is mother works as a dentist.
