Suhrawardy, 58, a renowned specialist in Medieval Indian history, had been suffering from acute pneumonia since December 4. Sadly, her health worsened and she had a deadly heart arrest.
Her St. Stephen’s College colleague Aditya Pratap Deo spoke of her important achievements, saying,
Her work was on Mughal relations with Central Asia. She started teaching in 1991-92 when I was in my third year as a student. We have been colleagues since I started teaching in 1995. Tasneem, in a way, became the mainstay of the college’s studies in Medieval Indian History.
Since then, her death has caused immense grief in academic circles. Many people from her community expressed grief over her sudden demise. Due to this, many people are also trying to find out more about her. So, here’s what we know about her:
Who was Dr Tasneem Suhrawardy?
Dr Tasneem Suhrawardy was a renowned professor and academic personality. She has been in the news because she passed away at the age of 58 due to multiple health problems.
Her parents were the late Syed Saeedul Haq and the late Shahida Suhrawardy. She had two siblings and she was the youngest among them. Her sister Nilofar Suhrawardy, a renowned journalist, is still being alive, but her brother Anis Suhrawardy, a distinguished lawyer, passed away in 2012.
Dr Tasneem Suhrawardy completed his history BA (Hons) at Stephen’s University. Later, she attended Jawaharlal Nehru University where she did her MA.
After a distinguished academic career filled with accomplishments, she earned her Ph.D. in 2004 from Jawaharlal Nehru University with a thesis on “Central Asians in Mughal India: Migration, Settlement, and Impact on North Indian Culture.”
She died on 26 December 2023. At the time of her death, she was 58 years old.
