After receiving AIR 1 in NEET, Dr. Singh made headlines in June 2017. He had stated that the cost structure of Maulana Azad Medical College was the reason he wanted to study there. He had stated that his primary goal was to pass the NEET, thus he was happy with his 88% in the Class 12 board exam.

Media was previously informed by his father Gopal Singh, the principal of the government senior secondary school in Sarainaga village, Muktsar district, that his son’s interest in science and desire to become a doctor may have originated from his work as a physics teacher. His mother Simarjeet Kaur worked in a private job.

Sharma, a family friend of Dr Singh’s father, said, “Gopal had spoken with Navdeep on Saturday evening and he was perfectly normal. He had not indicated anything that he was having any stress. He used to share everything with his parents. We are surprised at how he took such an extreme step”.

Navdeep’s younger brother is studying MBBS at a college in Chandigarh.
