His brother Eric Wahl sent a message on Instagram confirming his death and stating unequivocally that he believes “foul play” was involved. Eric said that because he is “gay,” that is why his brother previously wore the “rainbow shirt” in Qatar.
However, Celine Gounder, Grant’s wife, is “shocked” and unable to comprehend why her husband died so quickly. She expressed gratitude to everyone who had reached out and helped her. Taking to Twitter, she wrote,
I am so thankful for the support of my husband @GrantWahl’s soccer family & of so many friends who’ve reached out tonight. I’m in complete shock.

She was born on April 22, 1977, in the United States, His mother is from Normandy, France, and his father’s name is Raj Natarajan Gounder, who is from a small village near Erode, Tamil Nadu.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in molecular biology from Princeton University in 1997. In 2000, she attended Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health where she did a Master of Science in epidemiology.
Celine Gounder received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in 2004. She co-founded the International Health Group, an organization that promotes medical training for helping underprivileged people worldwide, while she was still in medical school.
