A young medical officer named Dr Akshaya Pawaskar passed out while on duty at Shiroda’s Primary Health Centre (PHC). Dr Pawaskar was 38 years old at the time of his death.

Who Was Dr Akshaya Pawaskar?

Pawaskar was a doctor-poet from Goa, India. Her poems were published in Tipton Poetry Journal, Shards, North of Oxford, The Blue Nib, Indian Rumination, and Roc and Sling.

In 2020, Pawaskar won the Craven Arts Council’s ekphrastic poetry competition. In 2018, she placed second in the Blu Nib chapbook contest. She is also the author of two poetry chapbooks, The Falling in and the Failling Out (Alien Buddha Press, 2021) and Cocktail of Life (BookLead Publishing, 2022).

Dr Akshaya was a committed and diligent medical professional who oversaw the Shiroda COVID hospital throughout the difficult pandemic years.

She was a full-time doctor, but she writes poems merely for joy was wishes to publish them in various journals. In her 2021 interview, she confessed that her other book was also in the pipeline. She quoted her love for poems in Vincent Van Gogh’s quote and said, “I am seeking, I am striving, and I am in it with all my heart.”

Dr Pawaskar had a personal Instagram account where she had 814 followers but had posted only 66 posts. She followed 732 people, and her bio description read, “One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple: Jack Kerouac.”

The Health Minister Expressed His Heartfelt Condolences 

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said, “I was deeply saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Dr Akshaya Pawaskar, a young medical officer who collapsed while on duty.” He added that he would look into the matter further to determine the root of the problem.

He further expressed his sincere sympathies to her extended family. He said, “Today we lost a good doctor. May the family have the fortitude to get through this trying moment.”
