Sheffield United potential new owner revealed
A report from the Times earlier claimed that an African billionaire looking to takeover Sheffield United and now that person has been revealed as Mmobuosi. Mmobuosi is a 43-yearold businessman, who was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He has been married to Oluwatosin since 2015 and the couple share three children together.
Mmobuosi is the founder and CEO of Tingo, Inc. and Tingo International Holdings. According to various sources, the company has an estimated net worth of around £7bn.
A takeover looks imminent
Reports about Sheffield’s current owner Prince Abdullah accepting substantial offers to sell the club came out in December last year. According to various sources, the offer is currently in the hands of the EFL who are looking into it as part of the Owners’ and Directors’ Test.
Moreover, reports suggest that the takeover attempt will be to purchase only Sheffield United and not United World. United World is the holding company that houses all the footballing interests of its current owner Prince Abdullah.
Financial pressures and transfer embargos
According to reports, Mmobuosi has made an offer worth £90m to buy the club. The sale of the club comes at a time when the club are currently facing financial pressures. Sheffield United have been out of the Premier League for two seasons, which have put their financial standings at risk.
The Blades are currently also facing a transfer embargo after they failed to continue making transfer payments to Liverpool. The payments are reportedly for the sale of Rhian Brewster.
