The Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA) are currently led by interim head coach Doug Christie, an American professional basketball coach and former player after Mike Brown left.

Mike Brown, the Sacramento Kings’ head coach, has left the team with Dough Christie being announced as the side’s interim head coach. The move was described as a “difficult decision” by general manager Monte McNair, who also complimented Brown for his efforts. In his first game as interim coach, assistant Doug Christie will play against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night. Christie spent five of his 15 NBA seasons in Sacramento and has been an assistant with the Kings since 2021–2022.

Doug Christie was born in Seattle, Washington. Doug is 6ft 6in tall. He is the son of John Malone and Norma Christie, Christie’s mother is white, and his father is black, making him biracial.

Christie participated in basketball as a freshman and sophomore at the Mark Morris High School and Cascade Middle School in the eighth grade. He had gone to live with his father, John Malone, a former Mark Morris track star, in Longview. Later on, he went to Rainier Beach High School in Seattle.

In 1988, Christie received his diploma from Rainier Beach High where he lead the school’s boys varsity basketball team. He continued his studies in sociology at Pepperdine University. Christie averaged more than 19 points per game in his final two seasons, leading Pepperdine to the NCAA Tournament twice. He received two WCC Player of the Year awards.

Christie has three kids, Chantel and Doug Jr and their half-sibling Takari with his wife, Basketball Wives star Jackie. The Christies discussed their marriage and devoted lifestyle in a feature article that appeared in The New York Times in 2002. Beginning in 2002, the Christies reaffirmed their vows on their wedding anniversary each year.

The couple, who wed in 1996, have long been known for their dedicated marriage. Before Doug retired from the NBA in 2007, his mysterious hand signals on the basketball court (which apparently meant “I love you” to his wife) caused a major stir among professional athletes.

Their close relationship even garnered them a reality TV series, “Committed: The Christies” — which ran for two seasons in 2006 on Bet and the Christies, who renew their marriage vows every year also wrote two books together, including 2007’s No Ordinary Love and Luv-Pons: A Fun Variety Love & Romance Guide For Couples, which was released on Valentine’s Day. The two got married only three days after Doug proposed to Jackie.

In 2019, his son, Douglas Christie Jr., committed to playing two years of college basketball at Folsom Lake College and was listed on the official roster of the Falcons in 2019-20. Christie Jr made his television debut on the BET network at the age of five on his family’s reality series The Christies: Committed in 2006.

The Seattle SuperSonics selected Doug Christie with the 17th overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft. Christie did not play for the Sonics, though, because he and the team were unable to come to an agreement on a contract.

Christie was dealt by the Lakers to the New York Knicks for two second-round draft picks just before the 1994–95 season began. Christie and Herb Williams were dealt to the Toronto Raptors on February 18, 1996, in exchange for Victor Alexander and Willie Anderson.

He was traded to the Sacramento Kings for forward Corliss Williamson in August 2000. Christie was dealt to the Orlando Magic in 2005 in exchange for Michael Bradley and Cuttino Mobley. Christie was included on a team put up by Dennis Rodman in 2014.

While his salary as Sacramento Kings’ interim head coach isn’t known yet, his predecessor, Mike Brown was handed a two-year contract extension in the summer, taking his salary up to $8.5m-a-year.
