The tragic news of Pelé’s demise was confirmed by Albert Einstein Hospital, São Paulo. As per the statement released by the hospital, the late player passed away at around 03:27 P.M. local time due to multiple organ failure.
After learning the news of the pro player’s passing, several football stars took to their social media to pay their tributes to the famous striker, who helped the national Brazil team to win its first ever World Cup in 1958.
Pelé is the only player who have won 3 World Cups. A fellow footballer, Neymar took to their social media platform Instagram, and expressed that the late player was his hero.
At the time, he wrote, “He is gone, but his magic will remain.”
For those who are curious about the achievements of Pelé, let us tell you, during his 21-year career, the late player has scored 1,281 astonishing goals in a total of 1,363 matches.
Although the player is regarded as the “greatest player,” it wasn’t always the case as his mother wasn’t always so keen even though Pelé was coached under his father to become an international star.
Let us remind you, Pelé’s father, Dondinho, was a Fluminense footballer. He was a mentor to his young son on the pitch. Dondinho was himself a skilled player who had also played for Brazil’s largest professional club.
In an earlier interview, Pelé revealed that his mother wasn’t always supportive of his choice of career as she didn’t want her son to end up injured.
However, the football icon also expressed his relationship with his father as he stated that his father treated him like a friend and he always reminded him to stay humble.
He recalled that his father used to teach him that “never think you are the best, never think you know everything.”
In November 1996, Pelé’s father Dondinho passed away at the age of 79, however, his mother, Celeste Arantes, is still alive and is currently 100 years old.
