Career and stats

Dominique Malonga started out her professional career at just 16 years of age with LDLC ASVEL (Lyon). Despite an early start, she suffered several setbacks in early seasons due to age and injury. She went out on loan spells at Tarbes GB in 2023-24, following which she returned to Lyon the following season.

Over the years, she has won a silver medal with France at the 2024 Paris Olympics and also became the first Frenchwoman to dunk in an official game. This season, she shot 28.9% from three (11-of-38) and averaged 1.6 attempts per game in the French league. During the EuroCup, she went 6-of-21 (28.6%) from deep, converting 68.6% of her free throws at the line across both leagues.

Playing style

Dominique Malonga plays as a modern center who thrives in pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop situations. She is capable of taking defenders off the dribble or even finishing strong at the rim, with her ability to grab a rebound and go coast-to-coast. Aside from her physical prowess, she also pulls out all kinds of spin moves, Euro-steps, or one-legged fadeaways during games.

Despite her large size, Malonga moves like a guard, and can switch on the perimeter, run the floor in transition, as well as make all kinds of plays that most centers can’t.  Although Malonga comes with a lot of potential, she still has various aspects to work on. She is still developing her physical base, and often struggles at times against more physically mature post players. While she has smooth shooting mechanics, her percentages from three and the free throw line still need improvement.
