On Sunday, October 2, Diven Halai will run the London Marathon with oxygen tanks, making him the first man to do so
Halai is running the London marathon to raise money for the Asthma + Lung charity despite having an incurable lung illness.
In 2020, Halai was identified as having interstitial lung disease (ILD), a condition that made it challenging for him to breathe and let oxygen into his bloodstream.

According to sources, the condition is incurable, thus Halai was started on chemotherapy to delay the disease’s spread. Since that time, he has been given an oxygen tank to carry with him everywhere he goes.
Diven Halai, a 37-year-old estimator for the London-based business Lovell Partnerships, is employed there. His home is in the Harrow neighbourhood of the Greater London region of England.
According to reports, he was a fit man who ran 10 miles on the weekends. In the summer of 2019, he first experienced coughing fits and had trouble accomplishing ordinary chores. Halai was given the diagnosis of IDL after the issues persisted for a year.
The Marathon Decision
He informed the Evening Standard that he discussed his desire to participate in the marathon with his wife before deciding to do so.
“I spoke with my wife, and she advised me to try it if I thought I could. I believe this might be my final opportunity because he stated that if my health worsens, I won’t have another chance.
According to The Evening Standard, Halai will have three helpers while he runs the 26-mile course of the Marathon. They’ll assist him with refuelling his oxygen tanks.
He intends to stroll rather than run the entire course, but he hopes to finish the event in under two hours.
“I can’t wait to say goodbye and see my loved ones. I’ve got the motivation to do it; all I want to do is cross the finish line,” he added.
What’s Going On With Diven Halai?
This was in contrast to his earlier, very active days before the diagnosis. Halai used to easily run 10 to 15 kilometres on the weekends.
All of that changed once he began a chemotherapy regimen to decrease the progression of his lung ailment. He received an oxygen tank in August 2021, which he had to transport with him wherever he went.
But how long can you keep a runner away from the track? Halai decided to run in the London Marathon earlier this year in order to support the organization Asthma + Lung. It served as both a means of raising money for those in need and a test of his own running prowess following the diagnosis.
Through her participation in past marathons, Halai has already raised more than £15,000. He now intends to participate in the London Marathon while carrying an oxygen tank.
