His full name is Richard A. Harpootlian. On January 23, 1949, he was born in New York. His mother’s name is Jody Williams, and his father’s name is Harold Harpootlian. He is of Armenian heritage; his ancestors left their birthplace of Harpoot (now in Turkey) during the Armenian genocide and moved to the United States.
After completing his schooling, Dick Harpootlian earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Clemson University. Subsequently, the University of South Carolina School of Law awarded him a Juris Doctor.
He is married, and his wife’s name is Jamie Lindler Harpootlian, who is presently serving as the US ambassador to the Republic of Slovenia. He is also the father of one child.
