The shop has gone viral with the series since the first video, gaining millions of views each time. Their official Instagram account @ merchants_fishandchips, currently has over 47.6K followers.
The videos feature scripted interactions of their employee Destiny Harolld, engaging with customers. Although the interactions are scripted, they have a spontaneous feel about them. The 20-year-old employee always stars in the videos and her sweet and helpful nature has impressed viewers worldwide. Harolld possesses a nonchalant and, at times, uninterested demeanor, which has caused many viewers to become “totally obsessed” with her and the series. According to reports, Harolld has been working at the chip shop located in Bewdley, Worcestershire since she was 16-years-old.
Destiny took the order, gave the customer his battered haddock and shared the drink options for his order and people lapped up her sales tricks and praised her on her manners. Many noted how she said please and thank you to the customer and her friendly goodbye at the end as she said: “Have a nice day”.
The 20-year-old works with Mitch Key to make the majority of Merchant in Bewdley, Worcestershire recent viral videos, with people on the video-sharing platform even dressing up as her for Halloween.
The family-run business has been in the town for 40 years, with owner Antony Akathiotis having taken over the reins from his dad when he was 21.
