On August 31, Danelo Cavalcante, 34, successfully escaped from Chester County Prison. Following his recent conviction for the 2021 murder of his ex-girlfriend, Deborah Brandão, he has been imprisoned there. Why did Danelo Cavalcante murder her?
After moving to Brazil, Deborah Brandão fell in love with her Brazilian neighbor, Danelo Cavalcante, and believed she had met a suitable partner. Yet as time went on, he started to change, becoming envious and violent. After Brandão filed a restraining order against him, Cavalcante brutally murdered her before escaping to Virginia, where law enforcement eventually caught up with him.
According to the AP, Deborah learned that Cavalcante was wanted by Brazilian officials for a murder they believe he committed in 2017 before escaping to the United States. Cavalcante hacked Deborah’s Instagram account, and Deborah threatened to reveal everything she knew, according to Forbes.
In addition to other counts, a jury found Cavalcante guilty of the first-degree murder of Deborah Brandão on 16 August 2023. A judge later sentenced Cavalcante to life in prison without the chance of release.
