Former Indian cricketer David Johnson recently passed away today, on Thursday, June 19, 2024. The local Kothanur police arrived at the tragic scene upon receiving information of his death and took his body to the Crescent Hospital. Following the news of his death, thousands of netizens flooded social media with tribute messages. Legendary former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble also expressed his grief over Johnson’s untimely demise, stating:

According to reports, David Johnson who was a Christian by religion committed suicide by jumping from the 4th floor of a private apartment today, on Thursday, June 19, 2024. Johnson reportedly chose to take the extreme step due to depression.

David Jude Johnson was a former Indian cricketer and Karnataka Ranji cricketer who was born on October 16, 1971, in Arasikere, Karnataka. He was 52 years old at the time of his death in Bengaluru. The former Indian cricketer was best known for his brief yet memorable international career as a fast bowler.
He is survived by his wife and two children but their names aren’t known. Johnson, who was running a cricket academy, had not been in good health.
David Johnson, once clocked 157.8 km/h during the Test match against Australia, passed away in Bengaluru at age of 52.
He played two tests for India in 1996.

Career
David Johnson most notably played in two Test matches for India back in 1996. He made his debut against Australia but eventually struggled to find consistency and fitness. As a result, he drifted out of the team but continued to play domestic cricket for Karnataka.
Throughout his domestic career, he played in 39 First-Class matches and fetched around 125 wickets. He also managed to pick up four five-fors and a ten-for. During his time as a player, Johnson was regarded as one of the fastest Indian bowlers. The right-arm bowler put on impressive bowling figures of 10 for 152 against Kerala during the 1995–96 Ranji Trophy season.
David Johnson made his Test debut against Australia during the one-off in 1996, where he managed to dismiss Michael Slater. The right-arm bowler was also part of the Indian national team that played against South Africa. Although he played only in the first Test, he took important wickets against Herschelle Gibbs and Brian McMillan.
