Haji’s Style Left Spectators in Disbelief

As anticipated, van Gerwen dominated the match with a decisive 6-0 victory. However, the 51-year-old Haji’s unorthodox throwing style left spectators in disbelief, straying far from the norms found in coaching guides.

Taking a front-on stance, Haji released the dart in a twirling motion, often missing the intended target. Sky Sports darts commentator and coach Wayne Mardle, who observed the tournament from a distance, struggled to articulate his reaction when questioned about Haji’s unique technique on social media.

Mardle’s post on X (formerly Twitter) read, “I don’t want to talk about it. My head hurts.” When pressed for further thoughts on Haji’s throw, his concise response was a straightforward “No.”

Fans Finds Amusement in Haji’s Style

Despite Mardle’s discomfort, fans found amusement in Haji’s unconventional style. One fan humorously remarked, “I’ve seen some questionable throws in my time, but Hasan Haji, that’s just taking it to the extreme.”

Another commented, “It is absolutely hilarious to watch.” A third fan playfully suggested, “It’s like they raffled a game against Van Gerwen, and some random guy from the crowd won.” Another astutely observed, “A miracle they’re hitting the board at all.”

Haji, one of two Bahrainis in the competition, suffered a 6-0 defeat, mirroring the fate of the other local player, Abdulla Saeed, who lost to Luke Humphries.

This led one fan to express dissatisfaction, stating, “Just shows how embarrassing PDC has got. The supposedly growing game, World Series, seems nothing short of money grabbing. I’m not great, and I could be Bahrain’s number 1.”

In earlier matches of the night, Peter Wright and Nathan Aspinall narrowly escaped upsets to secure spots in the quarterfinals.

Luke Littler and Rob Cross had a more comfortable experience, winning their matches 6-3. In the final first-round match, defending champion Michael Smith narrowly defeated Paolo Nebrida 6-5.
