Known for leading England to a World Cup victory in 1966, English player George Cohen passed away on Friday, December 23 at the age of 83, know more about his wife
It has been reported that the former Fulham legend passed away due to complications from old age.
George Cohen and Daphane had been married since 1962, therefore she was already his wife when he won the World Cup in 2022. They had two sons, but we don’t know what their names are.

Ben Cohen, his nephew, played for the English rugby union team that won the 2003 Rugby World Cup. George Cohen had between $1 and $5 million in assets when he passed away. George Cohen, who has played his whole professional career for Fulham, has been called a “one club man” due to this fact. Fulham Football Club issued a message of sympathy following his passing.
Cohen was the deputy captain under the legendary Bobby Moore and a key member of the Three Lions team that won the 1966 World Cup. Currently, only Hurst and Bobby Charlton remain from the final winning XI that defeated West Germany 4-2 in the championship game. Three additional members of that 1966 England team are still alive and well: George Eastham, Terry Paine, and Ian Callaghan.
In 2000, the year he was made MBE, his younger brother, Peter, died after being attacked in the foyer of a Northampton nightclub. In 1962 he married Daphne Church and she and their sons, Andrew and Anthony, survive him. Not much else is known about her but she is aged between 75-80 years.
George Cohen, a right back and vice captain of Alf Ramsey’s 1966 squad, earned his last of 37 caps a little over a year later. Even after retiring, he continued to work for Fulham as a match-day host and played in two FA Cup semi-finals.
After the heated quarterfinal, in which Argentina’s manager called his team “animals,” Ramsey memorably stopped Cohen from exchanging shirts with an Argentine player. There was a revelation that he framed the photo and hung it in his house. The player was the first member of the team to sell his winner’s medal, which Fulham had purchased for £80,000 in 1998.
George Cohen Diagnosed With Colon Cancer
In 1976, George Cohen was given a diagnosis of colon cancer, and for the next 14 years, he battled the disease. After his 1966 teammate and captain, Bobby Moore, passed away from the disease, he made it his mission to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s and dementia research. In 2017, Cohen announced his intention to the public that, after his death, his brain would be made available for study.
Rest in Peace George Cohen. Proud to have known him. A lovely man, hard when he needed to be, but always always humble. "Give it to the people who can play…" pic.twitter.com/lFf6JhwjH1

The English rugby union team that his nephew Ben Cohen played for won the 2003 World Cup. In 2016, the club announced that they had commissioned a statue of him to be displayed at Craven Cottage in honour of his dedication to the team. That year, in October, it was finally revealed to the public.
