32-year-old Sofia Firdous was born in 1992. She is a native of Cuttack, Chandinichowk. She is Mohammed Moquim’s daughter, a former Congress MLA. Sheikh Mairajul Hague who is a businessman is her spouse. Sofia is a Muslim by religion.
She attended St. Joseph’s Girl’s High School in Cuttack and left it in 2007 and went on to Ravenshaw Junior College in Cuttack. Afterwards, in 2013, she completed her B.Tech. in Civil Engineering at the KIIT University-affiliated Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology in Bhubaneswar.

Sofia Firdous career
Sofia Firdous served as director of her father’s real estate company, Metro Builders, before entering electoral politics. Firdous is also connected to the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (Credai) Bhubaneswar unit.
In the 2019 state polls, Congressman Mohammed Moquim defeated Biju Janata Dal candidate Debashish Samantaray by a margin of 2,123 votes, winning the Barabati-Cuttack seat.
But in September 2022, Moquim was found guilty in a corruption case by the Bhubaneswar special vigilance judge, who also fined the then-MLA Rs 50,000 and sentenced him to three years of hard prison. The Orissa High Court maintained Moquim’s conviction in April of this year.
In the 2024 Odisha state elections, the BJP accomplished what many felt was impossible. By securing 78 of the 147 seats in the state house, the saffron party overthrew former chief minister Naveen Patnaik and his BJD cabinet, ending their 24-year rule.
Sofia made her political debut from the Barabati-Cuttack Assembly constituency, defeating Purna Chandra Mahapatra of the Bharatiya Janata Party by 8,001 votes.
