Tanveer Sangha, an uncapped leg-spinner of Indian descent, has been selected to represent Australia in the 18-man squad for the ODI World Cup that will take place in India later this year. Later, the team will be reduced to 15, according to a statement released on Monday by Cricket Australia.

Mystery wrist spinner Sangha was born and raised in Sydney but comes from an Indian family that moved to Sydney in the 1990s from Jalandhar in the Punjab.
His father, Joga, is a cab driver who originally immigrated to Australia for academic purposes. Upneet, his mother, is an accountant. Sangha joins Gurinder Sandhu, Stuart Clark, and Bransby Cooper as Australian players of Indian descent.
21-year-old Sangha, has only participated in five List A games and has largely gained experience playing T20 cricket for Sydney Thunder. For the 2020–2021 Big Bash League season, Sangha claimed 21 wickets. The following year, he took 16 wickets. He was out for the most of last year with a stress fracture in his back.
With 15 wickets in six games, including two four-wicket hauls and a five-wicket haul, Sangha was one of the tournament’s top wicket-takers in the 2020 Under-19 World Cup. Australia’s opening World Cup match this year will be against hosts India in Chennai on October 8; under to ICC rules, squads must be finalised before September 28.
