In a scene right out of a dream sequence, left-arm spinner Manimaran Siddharth gave cricket legend Virat Kohli an unforgettable moment as he dismissed him in the thrilling atmosphere of the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) were attempting to score 182 runs, and Kohli was, predictably, displaying his signature aggressiveness.

The ace batsman had accumulated 22 runs off only 16 balls with a barrage of boundaries and a soaring six before falling victim to Siddharth’s cunning. Notably, it was the 25-year-old’s first IPL wicket.

As Tamil Nadu spinner Manimaran Siddharth entered the game in the fourth over, Kohli welcomed him with a thunderous boundary through the off-side. Siddharth was initially nervous, but he didn’t flinch; he delivered a ball that was fuller and slightly slower.

Kohli, advancing down the track, was deceived by the turn, resulting in a mistimed shot that lobbed to a backward point. His old opening partner, Devdutt Padikkal, raced back calmly to secure an easy catch.

Who is Manimaran Siddharth?

Manimaran Siddharth is a young Indian cricketer, renowned for being a left-arm orthodox spin bowler. He has been in the news because he recently took Virat Kohli’s wicket in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

He was born on 3 July 1998 in Tamil Nadu, India. Siddharth did his schooling at Chettinad Vidyashram, a private school in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

He is currently 25 years old with his height at 5 feet 7 inches.

His career

In November 2019, Manimaran Siddharth made his Twenty20 debut while playing for Tamil Nadu in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for the 2019–20 season. A few weeks later, in December 2019, he made his debut in first-class cricket by representing Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy for 2019–20.

After making significant progress in domestic cricket and displaying his skill in the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he made his List A debut in February 2021. Siddharth was drawn to the Indian Premier League and was acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2020 auction.

However, destiny had other plans, as the Delhi Capitals won an auction to acquire his services in February 2021. Unfortunately, an injury sidelined Manimaran Siddharth, leading to his replacement by Kulwant Khejroliya.

However, Siddharth’s fate had bigger plans for the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai. Lucknow Super Giants emerged victorious, securing his talents for a staggering sum of INR 2.4 crore.
