Who is Akash Deep?
Akash Deep is a budding Indian cricketer. He has been in the news because he took three spectacular wickets during his Test debut against England at Ranchi’s JSCA International Stadium.
His real name is Akashdeep Singh and he was born on 15 December 1996 in Baddi Sasaram, Bihar, India in a Hindu family. His father is Ramji Singh, who worked as a government school teacher in Bihar’s Sasaram. Apart from his parents, he has one elder brother and 2 younger sisters in his family. However, within six months, Akash Deep’s father and older brother passed away, leaving him to take on the role of primary breadwinner for his family.
His height is 1.85 meters, or 6 feet, 1 inch and he is currently 27 years old.
His career
Akash Deep joined a Durgapur cricket club early in his career with a friend’s help and made money by playing tennis-ball matches. With coach Sourasish Lahiri’s help, he recovered from a back problem by switching to fast bowling. His domestic debut journey included T20, List A, and first-class for Bengal.
In the IPL, he joined Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021, securing a spot in the 2022 auction. He was called up for a test in February 2024 after an outstanding showing for India A. In the 2022 Asian Games, he took Shivam Mavi’s position. He also took Deepak Chahar’s place in the Indian ODI team against South Africa.
After winning the Bengal Ranji Trophy in 2023–2024, Akash Deep received his first-ever Test call-up for the home series against England in 2024.
