Paul Reiffel facing backlash for IND vs ENG 3rd Test Decision

Paul Reiffel is an ICC umpire who is currently under fire after making a controversial LBW decision in favor of Joe Root during the third Test between India and England. Root was batting on 36, when he survived a close LBW call off Mohammed Siraj’s delivery, but the tracking showed it to be clipping the top of the leg stump. Despite India’s review, Reiffel stood with his original call using the “umpire’s call” rule, and Root went on to score 40.

The decision has seemingly sparked sharp criticism, with Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar even stating:

There’s no way it was just clipping. It was knocking the leg stump off.”

Meanwhile, Jonathan Trott also added:

I am flabbergasted. Watching it in real time, I thought it was crashing into the inside part of the leg stump.”

Although India eventually managed to dismiss Root and bowl England out for 192, the moment sparked heavy backlash from fans and commentators. As of now, Reiffel has not made any public responses, and the ICC is yet to issue a statement.
