48-year-old Geniben Thakor was born on 19 November 1975. She graduated from Jain Vishva Bharati Institute Ladnun with a BA in remote education. Geniben is married to Nagaji Thakor.
She was one of the 16 MLAs suspended by the Gujarat Assembly last year for protesting against the suspension of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as an MP and in February 2024, Ms Thakor and 10 other Congress MLAs were suspended again for speaking about fake government offices in the state.
In 2024, despite facing financial constraints, decided to contest the general elections and her campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls was crowdfunded after Congress said it wasn’t in a position to financially back its nominees.

Indian politician Geniben Nagajibhai Thakor was chosen from the Vav assembly constituency to serve in the Gujarat legislative assembly. She ran for the Indian National Congress in the 2017 Gujarat legislative assembly election, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party candidate Shankar Chaudhary.
Being the lone candidate from Gujarat for the Indian National Congress, Geniben Nagajibhai emerged victorious in the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections from the Banaskantha constituency.
Thakor ran from Vav in the 2012 Gujarat legislative assembly election, however she was unsuccessful. She ran in the Vav constituency for the Gujarat legislative assembly in 2017 and won by a margin of 6,655 votes. According to media reports, Thakor is Alpesh Thakor’s close aide. In the Gujarat Legislative Assembly election of 2022, she was elected from Vav once again.
Geni Thakor backed the Thakor community’s decision in 2019 to outlaw the use of cell phones by single girls in the community. Thakor declared that “they should stay away from technology and spend more time in studying” and that there was nothing wrong with the decision to outlaw cell phones for girls.
She had previously incited people in 2018 to burn the rape suspects rather than give them over to the authorities. She emphasised later on that her goal was to “calm down women.”
She argued for changes to the Marriage Act, urging that marriage registrations take place in the taluka where the couple resides and suggesting that parental signatures be required for marriage registrations.
