Indian Super League (ISL) team Chennaiyin FC announced on Wednesday that defender Bijay Chhetri has signed a one-year loan with Uruguayan football team Colon FC.
As a result, Chhetri became the first football player from India to sign with a team in Latin America. Colon Futbol Club has the option to extend the loan until the end of the year, at which point they will have the right to make the signing permanent.

Who is Bijay Chhetri?
Bijay Chhetri is an Indian professional football player, was born on July 7, 2001 in Kanglatongbi, Imphal, Manipur. The 22-year-old stands 1.84 m (6 ft 1⁄2 in) tall.
Currently on loan from Chennaiyin, he plays defence for Colon, a club in Uruguay’s Segunda Division.
A look at Bijay Chhetri’s career so far
Bijay began his football career in 2016 with Shillong Lajong, where he played for their Under 16 team. After two years, he was promoted to the Under 18 team. In the 2018–19 season, he joined Indian Arrows, although he was unable to appear in any games due to a significant injury.
2018 saw Bijay make his senior debut with Indian Arrows after starting his football career with Shillong Lajong in 2016. After that, he played for teams like Sreenidi Deccan, Real Kashmir, and Chennai City before signing with CFC this season, his first ISL team.
