Pranav Soorma bio
Pranav Soorma is an Indian para-athlete who was born on 4 October, 1994, in Faridabad, Haryana. Back in 2011, when Pranav was just 16 years old, he got involved in an accident which left him injured in his spinal cord when the roof of his house fell on him leaving him a quadriplegic confined to the wheelchair. Following the mishap, his father, Sanjeev, had to quit his job and support his son while his mother ran the house with her private job. He currently receives support from sports NGO Olympic Gold Quest.
Pranav Soorma is an Asian Games record holder with a throw of 30.01m to his name. The 29 year old has a height of 6 feet.
He clinched the silver at the 2024 Paralympis with a remarkable throw of 34.59m.
Education
Pranav Soorma attended St. Paul’s School, Delhi before completing his post-graduation from Delhi School of Economics.
Profession
Aside from being a para-athlete, Pranav Soorma also works as an Assistant Manager in Bank of Baroda.
Career
Pranav Soorma first gained international prominence after winning a silver medal at the Beijing Grand Prix in 2019. He then won a silver and a gold during the Tunisia Grand Prix in 2022. The following year, in 2023, Pranav won another gold in the Serbia Open. That same year, he won the gold medal at the 2022 Asian Para Games on October 23, 2023. Aside from winning the gold, he set a new Asian Games record following a 30.01m throw.
Later that year, in December, Pranav further improved his throw with a 33.54 throw, to win gold at the inaugural Khelo India Para games in December 2023. The event took place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in New Delhi. He is now the Paris 2024 Paralympics silver medallist in the Men’s club throw F51 category.
