Dharambir Nain bio

Dharambir Nain is an Indian para-athlete who was born on January 18, 1989 in Rohtak, Haryana. He is currently 35 years old and trains at the Sports Authority of India base in Sonipat. Dharambir underwent a tragic ordeal following a diving accident when he was young, which left him paralysed below the waist. He misjudged the depth of the water while making an attempt to dive into water and accidentally crashed into rocks lying under the water body.

Dharambir Nain attended C. R. Z. Senior Secondary School, Sonipat during his childhood.

Career

Dharambir took up para-athletics back in 2014 and trained under his mentor and fellow para-athlete Amit Kumar Saroha. In just two years, Dharambir improved significantly, and competed at the 2016 Fazza IPC Athletics Grand Prix, in Dubai. Following his participation there, he secured an ‘A’ qualification mark for the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Nain finished 9th in Rio and then took part in the London World Championships in 2017.

He eventually went on to win a silver medal during the 2018 Asian Para Games before going on to represent India at the World Championship in Dubai in 2019. During the 2020 Summer Paralympics at Tokyo, Dharambir Nain finished at 8th place. Laster in 2022, Dharambir won two silver medals in club throw as well as discus throw during the 13th Fazza International Athletics Championships.

He won another silver at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China and received the Bhim Award that same year. Earlier this year, he won the bronze medal during the 2024 World Para Athletic Championships in Kobe, Japan. He is now the proud winner of a gold in the ongoing Parsi 2024 Paralympics.
