Playing career

Reyna’s father, Miguel, moved to Argentina in 1968, where Ryan began his football career with the Independiente youth system and then with Los Andes as a professional. Later that year, Reyna and his father Miguel relocated to Livingston, New Jersey, where Reyna started to learn and grasp the game as a youth player at Saint Benedicts Preparatory School, where he began playing as a midfielder.

During his high school years, Ryan rose to become one of the most skilled and top-level soccer players in New Jersey. Later, he moved to the University of Virginia, where he excelled in soccer and was awarded the Harmann Trophy in 1993. This was the rise of one of the top soccer players in the United States. He received several awards, including the magazine’s male player of the century.

He made his European club debut with Bayer Leverkusen before moving on to VfL in the German Bundesliga (1994-1999). Ryan had established himself as one of the most creative midfielders in the German Bundesliga before joining Rangers (1999-2001). Following his time with Rangers, Reyna went on to play for Sunderland in the English Premier League (2001-2003).

Following that, he joined Manchester City (2003-2007), but due to a poor injury record, his stint at City was the most difficult and unsuccessful. He then returned to the United States and announced his retirement from the New York Bills in 2008. He has played 108 games for the U.S. national team and scored 8 goals.
