Her maternal Sephardic grandparents immigrated to Mexico City in the early 1940s in order to flee the Holocaust, while her paternal Ashkenazi ancestors did the same from Lithuania in the 1920s. Her father, Carlos Sheinbaum Yoselevitz, was a chemical engineer, and her mother, Annie Pardo Cemo, is an emeritus professor of biology at the National Autonomous University of Mexico’s Faculty of Sciences. Julio, her brother, works as a physicist.

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo held the position of Secretary of the Environment under Andrés Manuel López Obrador as Head of Government from 2000 to 2006. After serving as the Tlalpan borough’s Delegational Chief from 2015 to 2017, Sheinbaum launched a campaign focused on reducing crime and upholding zoning regulations, which helped her win the position of Head of Government in the 2018 election.
