Christopher Guest started his career in the theatre during the 1970s by playing the role of Norman in Michael Weller’s Moonchildren for the play’s American premiere at Arena Stage in Washington, DC, in November of 1971.
Guest’s biggest role in the first two decades of his career was that of Nigel Tufnel in the 1984 Rob Reiner movie This Is Spinal Tap. Guest made his first appearance as Tufnel on a sketch comedy program that was released in 1978 at The TV Show.
In early 2010, the United States Census Bureau paid $2.5 million to have television commercials, which were directed by Guest. This was shown during television coverage of the Super Bowl XLIV
