After Thursday’s opening round of the 151st Open Championship, amateur Christo Lamprecht may be the only person at Royal Liverpool Golf Club who isn’t shocked that his name is at the top of the leaderboard alongside Englishman Tommy Fleetwood and Argentinean Emiliano Grillo.

At the Royal Liverpool Golf Club, the 22-year-old Georgia Tech senior took the early lead after shooting a remarkable five-under 66. He had finalised his spot at the Open by winning the British Amateur at the adjacent Hillside Golf Club in June.

Lamprecht is thought to be the tallest player to have ever participated in The Open, standing at 6 feet, 8 inches. He claimed that his great-grandfather was 7 feet tall, his father is 6-4, and his grandfather is 6-8. According to Lamprecht, his growth surge began just before he started high school.
