According to The Augusta Press, on March 22, Chris Louis, 24, allegedly walked with his three children from his apartment to the restaurant in Augusta shortly before 4:30 p.m.
He had a job interview nearby and, without a car or childcare, made the difficult decision to leave his kids in a safe, public place for a short time while he tried to secure work and a concerned customer called authorities, and Chris was arrested for “deprivation of a minor” upon returning after the interview.

The restaurant, which includes an indoor play area connected to the dining room, is where the children, who are aged 1, 6, and 10, spent their time alone. Just around 6:20 p.m., Louis returned to the McDonald’s, where he was accosted by police for leaving his kids unattended in public.
According to the outlet, Louis, who doesn’t have a car, told police that he left his kids behind because he didn’t want them to have to walk home after him while he went to the interview.
“Story caught me by surprise. A dad just trying to find a way to make money for his family. I know he shouldn’t just leave his kids, but some people don’t have the means for babysitting, etc,” ex-NFL player Antonio Brown wrote on GoFundMe as he came to help Chris who was jailed.
Brown says he intends to speak with the father but hasn’t spoken to Louis yet.

The 36-year-old asserts that in order to guarantee that the funds would reach Louis directly, he organized the fundraiser with GoFundMe’s assistance. Brown stated on X, “Chris was on the Pursuit of Happiness & sometimes ppl just need help.”
The father of six has given $1,000 of his own money. In the first five hours, the late Tuesday night fundraiser has raised more than $28,000 of the $50,000 target.
The arrest caused Louis’ condition to be divided on the internet.
