The viral incident took place on July 30, as Wang gave a post-match interview following his mixed doubles final win. A video footage of the incident showed a Swedish reporter colliding with the 24-year-old while trying to make her way to the other side of the venue.

While Chuqin was unsurprisingly shocked and taken aback, the reporter quickly went past him without a second glance. As a result, the collision has caused a huge uproar, with several fans voicing out their frustrations. According to reports, the organizing committee has banned the journalist from the Games.

Wang Chuqin is a Chinese professional table tennis player who was born on May 11, 2000, in Jilin City, China. Chuqin is nicknamed as Lion heart, and mainly plays as a left-handed, shakehand grip player. He is also the top ranked player in the ITTF world rankings. The world number 1 uses a DHS W968, a DHS Hurricane 3 National Blue Sponge (FH, black), and a DHS Hurricane 8 (BH, Red).

Wang Chuqin mainly gained prominence after winning a gold in the men’s singles and mixed team events during the Youth Olympic Games in 2018. He then won the menโ€™s singles at the WTT Cup Finals in 2021 and WTT Champions Xinxiang in 2022. Wang then won a gold along with his teammates at the 2022 World Team Table Tennis Championships.

Wang also won the menโ€™s singles title at WTT Champions Macao twice in 2022 and 2023. Most recently, Wang Chuqin won multiple medals at the 2023 World Table Tennis Championships in Durban. He won a silver in men’s singles, and a gold in mixed doubles with Sun Yingsha, along with a gold in menโ€™s doubles with Fan Zhendong.
