A look at Vaishali Rameshbabu’s career
For the first time ever, India took home a medal from the competition when Vaishali was a member of the Indian team that won the gold medal in the 2020 Online Olympiad. She also obtained the title of International Master (IM) in 2021. A year later, in 2022, Vaishali achieved a second Grandmaster norm by winning the 8th Fischer Memorial event.
With an Elo rating of 2431, Vaishali received her first GM norm in 2019 and her second in May 2022. She took home the Under-12 and Under-14 Girls’ World Youth Chess Championship titles in 2012 and 2015, respectively. After completing her last norm at a tournament in Riga, Latvia, in 2018, she was granted the title of Woman Grandmaster (WGM), having previously been awarded Woman International Master (WIM) in 2016.
With a 5/9 and 2609 performance rating at the end of the Qatar Masters Open 2023, Vaishali achieved her final GM norm.
