Indian chess grandmaster Karthikeyan Murali was born on January 5, 1999. The 25-year-old who was born in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India, was named Grandmaster by FIDE in 2015. Karthikeyan is the winner of three national championships.

The youngster was too bright to learn chess at just 5. His journey of winning championships started since 2011. In December 2011, he emerged victorious in the Under 12 category of the World Youth Chess Championships, held in Caldas Novas, Brazil. Two years later at Al Ain, he won the world U16 title as well. He also helpedย the Indian squad to triumph at Gyลr, Hungary’s Under-16 Chess Olympiad
After defeating Vidit Santosh Gujrathi in the match, Karthikeyan emerged victorious in the 53rd National Premier Chess Championship of India in Tiruvarur in 2015. One year later, he won the championships in Lucknow.
Talking about his 2019 year, he finished 2nd on two occasions, one on the Gibraltar Masters open and other on the Asian championships. He participated in the Indian squad that took home the gold medal from the 2013 World Youth Chess Olympiad in Chongqing, China.
