Aarit Kapil draws Magnus Carlsen in online blitz game
Young Indian chess prodigy Aarit Kapil recently managed to draw five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen in the Early Titled Tuesday event on chess.com. Despite being down on time, Aarit managed to outplay Carlsen on the board and forced a draw after 49 moves. Carlsen started out strong in the game, using only seven seconds for his first 14 moves and holding a better position early on in the game. However, Aarit remained unshaken and launched an aggressive attack before gaining a dominant position by move 31.

Aarit Kapil is a young and upcoming chess player from Mayur Vihar, New Delhi, who recently went viral after beating Magnus Carlsen in an online blitz game. He is currently just nine years old, and he reportedly started playing chess at the young age of five under his elder sister Aarna’s tutelage.
Within a week of learning, Aarit was already beating family members and quickly began training under a coach. Aarit has since climbed up the ranks, becoming one of the youngest Indians to earn the Candidate Master title. Back in December, Aarit notably defeated 66-year-old American Grandmaster Raset Ziatdinov in a classical game. Following the win, he became the third-youngest ever to beat a GM in that format.

Aarit is a standard V student at Somerville School in Mayur Vihar, and despite his young age, he manages to balance his academics with intense chess training. Aarit reportedly spends five to six hours a day playing chess and currently trains under International Master Vishal Sareen. Arit also often participates in select international tournaments.
Aarit currently has a classical FIDE rating of 2078 while Carlsen has a classical rating of 2837 and holds the record for the highest rating of all time (2882).
Family
Aarit Kapil comes from a supportive middle-class family, with his father, Vijay Kapil, working as a mutual fund distributor, while his mother, Nisha, currently accompanies him to tournaments. He has an older sister named Aarna who reportedly introduced him to chess. They are a close-knit family who remain deeply committed to Aarit’s career.
