For the unfamiliar, earlier, the Pensioners announced the promotion of English-born Ghanaian players Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George to the first team.
Both footballers, who joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of 8, have risen through the ranks of the club’s youth system.

What Did Chelsea Say?
In an official statement, Chelsea praised the dedication and hard work of both players. In addition, they also emphasized their long-term commitment.
The statement reads, “The two 18-year-olds were part of the first-team squad that traveled to the US for our pre-season tour in the summer and have been training regularly since then, with both featuring in the Conference League and EFL Cup this season.”

Born in London, England to Nigerian parents, George remains eligible to represent Nigeria at the senior level, offering him a dual pathway in international football although he has represented England at the youth level. He also has a brother but the names of his family members aren’t known.
Tyrique George joined Chelsea as an Under-8 after coming through the club’s development centre programme and is coming off an excellent season as a second year scholar at his boyhood club. He has featured forty-seven times in all competitions for the Blues’ Under-18 and Under-21 sides and produced over 30 goal contributions in 2023/24.
George is a right-footed attacker who’s able to play on both wings and also as an attacking-midfielder, although he’s mostly deployed as a left-winger.
George previously made headlines in April 2023, when he scored a stunning 35-yard goal in an U18 Premier League match against Crystal Palace.
The teenager made his senior debut in August 2024 for Chelsea, during a UEFA Conference League match second leg play-off match against Servette.
Internationally, he has represented England at various youth levels and scored his first goal for the England U19 team in September 2024, in a 1–1 draw against Croatia.
Contract
At the time, George’s goal earned a nomination for Chelsea’s Goal of the Month award. Before signing a new contract on June 17, 2023 with Chelsea, Tyrique George was named on the bench for Chelsea’s 6–0 Premier League victory over Everton in April 2024.
With his contract extension, now Tyrique George will stay at the club until 2027, with an option for an additional year. He earns £2,600 per week and £135,200 a year.

Tyrique George was honored with Southern Champion 2023–24 for Chelsea U18s and U18 Pinatar Super Cup for England U18s.
