The Blues have agreed a deal for the 19-year-old defender, who will cost in the region of €13m to €15m (£11m-£13m).

Sarr only made the move to Strasbourg from Lyon back in August last year but the Blues have already seen enough to be convinced that he can play in the Premier League but teenager won’t make the switch to Stamford Bridge straight away though as he will stay at Strasbourg until the end of the season before joining up with his new team.

Because the deal was pre-arranged, Strasbourg is not forced to cut any of its three loanees, midfielder Andrey Santos, left-back Caleb Wiley, or goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic due to FIFA’s regulations. Dastan Satpaev, a 16-year-old Kazakh who recently finished a successful trial at Cobham Training Centre, has also signed a contract with Chelsea.
